Which brings me to the important question: and? What I find so unpleasant about Drake is what I dislike so much about 2010-era pop culture in general: meta-level oversharing as art (and celebrity) itself, with precious little else to hold onto. "Drake is a whiner, which isn’t exactly a new thing in pop, but it’s the style and content of his whining that gets me.* His first official LP, the one that enters him into the pop star arms race, is wholly made up of meta-level reflections of his own pop stardom, along with the cultural and socio-economic machinations that brought him here. It’s like his hit single “Over” goes, “What am I doing? What am I doing? Oh, that’s right I’m doing me.” And that’s the problem." To express but, we can use these following particles, ga, demo, shikashi. There are chairs and tables in the classroom. Kyoushitsu no naka ni, isu to tsukue ga arimasu. to and, with Watashi wa tomodachi to Nagoya e ikimashita. Which is why it’s weird how witless and bland he is on record. Even if my heart break someday, I dont want to hate you whom I love so much. He probably listens to good music and can get you into all the right parties. Drake seems like a likable enough fellow. At least they understand the value of restraint.

Personally, I’d rather put on the xx record (who get thanked in the liner notes) if I wanted to hear young kids whine about problems I could care less about. If that’s what you’re looking for in music, more power to you. It’s a cavernous and empty sound that blends well with the lack of self-awareness at the core of the record. It’s a dazzling but synthetic glow - so overly polished it begins to abrade. Despite his over-reliance on auto-tune, he’s a capable hook-man and has a nice ear for beats - even though Thank Me Later sulks with a monochromatic palette between late-period Kanye (he has two beats) and the Godzilla 808 stomp of contemporary southern rap. "Apart from his saturnine sensibility, Drake’has estimable pop gifts. Well no more I say! I will grab life by the horns! This has been such a whirlwind summer that I have not gotten a chance to just reflect and reassess. I am not performing to my maximum abilities at work either. I am not using my gym membership nearly enough. I am not studying nearly enough for my upcoming LSAT exam.

The Lakers won the chip, attended a Dodger-Angel freeway series game, went to EDC and experienced quite possibly the greatest night of my life, continued to work and buy toys.īut what eludes me are many more opportunities to create memories and build relationships with those around me. I have had a pretty epic start to the summer. Hopefully some epiphany on life can come to me.

My parent's friend invited me to stay at the hotel villa they're staying at. I'm on the beach of Santa Monica right now.
